What is this Legendary Life?

Hi, I’m Ted Ryce, health expert and coach to entrepreneurs, executives, and high-performing professionals who want to reclaim their health, lose weight, upgrade their productivity and live an extraordinary life.

I’m a straightforward guy, and this is a BS-free zone.

Every Monday on The Legendary Life podcast, we deliver, with humor, the best health and fitness information in the world, backed by cutting-edge science and common sense wisdom.

I share from my experiences, having worked with thousands of people from different walks of life. I also talk with experts, leaders, entrepreneurs, and authors who share their knowledge and practical advice.

Together, we break down complex health and fitness issues – cutting through the pervasive hype and confusion – making them easy to understand and overcome.

“There’s no getting away from it – life is full of problems! But with the right tools, we can manage and overcome them, move forward, and make our time on earth count…”

Over the last 22 years, I’ve been privileged to work with many CEOs of multimillion-dollar and Fortune 500 companies, busy professionals, and celebrities, including Richard Branson, Ricky Martin, and Robert Downey Jr.

But my own path to becoming a high-performance person was beset by personal tragedies that I needed to first overcome. I believe my story and what I’ve learned can help you conquer whatever you’re facing and fulfill your potential.

My Story of Overcoming

Tragedy defined my teen years.

When I was 14, my mother was killed suddenly in a car accident. And four years later, as I was beginning to recover, my 9-year-old brother was kidnapped, raped, and murdered. Life broke.

There are no words to describe my family’s devastation that would go on to claim the lives of both my step-mother (who died of a broken heart 14 years later) and my sister who we lost to suicide three years after that in 2012.

After such overwhelming losses, I was deeply traumatized and truly broken – physically, emotionally, spiritually, and financially.

I dropped out of school and into a deep depression. I honestly did not know what to do.

The Turning Point

It was my lifelong love of health and fitness that saved me. For me, exercise became my medicine (I don’t like to think about what would have become of me without it).

I found that when I exercised, my depression eased, and I started to feel better. So I channeled my pain into exercise and started training and competing in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, later achieving my brown belt.

Through the combination of strength training and intense jiu-jitsu classes, I developed a strong, lean, and athletic body, and I followed what I thought was a healthy diet.

Eventually, I became a fitness and health coach in Miami Beach, spending hours in the gym each day, either training myself or my clients.

Losing My Sister

And I am living proof that “Motion creates emotion!”
Changing your physiology takes changing your mental state and breaking your negative patterns. In this way, improved physiology leads to healthier emotions – one key to getting unstuck.

Before tragedy hit again in 2012, I was doing well – training celebrities, podcasting, and living life. But that terrible phone call informing me of my beloved little sister’s death once again shattered my world.

As her older brother, I was meant to protect and take care of her. Losing her to suicide was almost more than I could bear.

My Pursue Of Happiness

Tragedy defined my teen years.

By the end of 2017, my life looked great on the outside. I had A-list clientele, was making money online, and living the Miami Beach lifestyle.

But on the inside, it was a completely different story. I was unhappy. I needed to heal, have a fresh start and live life on my own terms.

So at the start of 2018, I took a massive step towards personal happiness and decided to move to Asia, leaving everything behind.

My clients and friends couldn’t believe that I was moving to the other side of the world. They thought I was crazy. But I knew I needed to explore the world and enjoy life again.

My wife Gisele and I packed our bags and traveled across the globe to learn more about how and why many Asian cultures live healthier and longer lives than those in the West.

I wanted to experience their medicine, ancient healing techniques, food, culture, mindfulness, and so much more. And I did…

  • I was meditating with monks in the mountains of Thailand.
  • Feeding, bathing, and playing with rescued elephants in the jungle sanctuary in Chiang Mai.
  • Learning martial arts from Chinese lineage masters and Muay Thai from professional fighters.
  • Drinking Balinese Cacau and chanting in a sacred circle in the middle of Indonesia.
  • Exploring the ruins of Angkor Wat, the iconic temple in Cambodia.
  • Learning how to cook Vietnamese food like a local.
  • Drinking Ayuhasca with shamans in the jungles of Costa Rica.

After an incredible two years living in Asia, I was having the time of my life. I finally achieved financial success with my online coaching and podcast. And in my personal life, I felt whole.

I was now ready to go back to the USA and take my dad to all the places on his bucket list. I wanted us to build new happy memories, but…

Sadly, in 2020, my 76-year-old dad died from poor health. The truth is he never recovered from all the tragic events in our family. And because of that, he didn’t have the motivation to focus on his health and the future.

“All the tragedy I’ve had in my life has strengthened me. You may not realize it when it happens, but reaching rock bottom can make you UNSTOPPABLE.”

The Legendary Life Mission

Returning to America healed, and caring for my dad, who sadly never had, expanded my life purpose. I now wanted to reach as many people as I could with all that I’ve learned.

And while I love coaching and helping individuals, I am passionate to impact millions of lives with this, my core truth:

I’m an ordinary guy who has lived through extraordinary circumstances and, if I could overcome all the tragedy, and triumph and live a legendary life, YOU CAN TOO.

Sharing my story and helping people overcome their challenges and succeed is the greatest joy of my life.

I am constantly working on all that I’ve learned to make it more and more relevant and accessible. I don’t want someone to look at my life and say, ‘well, of course, you succeeded! You were able to go on and do all these things because of this and that advantage.’

Sure, we all have our unique set of circumstances, but my mission is to teach things you can do no matter your background or where you live.

It’s not that you forget all the bad things that happen to you, it’s just that you integrate them into your life. You find a way to make peace with them, and you move on.
